Getting Started – Lesson 1

Estimated Time to Complete 10 Minutes

WebProSecrets is divided into 3 steps. Each step has numbered lessons that you follow in order. Most lessons take just a few minutes, so depending on the size of your website, you can have a working website in just a couple hours!

The software that builds your website is completely FREE – Not just for 30 days, but forever! WebProSecrets’ online videos & step by step instructions show you how to use it in just a few minutes.

Also, because the software lives on the web, there is no software to install on your computer and it works on virtually every computer, old and new, PC or Mac.  Let’s get started!

Choosing a Name for Your Website

Domain names are used to identify websites on the Internet.   WebProSecrets domain name is webprosecrets.com.

The vast majority of businesses want their their domain name to be the same as their business name.  So, if your company name is Achme Widgets you may want the domain name achmewidgets.com.

“Dot.com” domain names are what people are most used to, so they are very desirable.  If the dot.com version of your name is taken you can register a .net, .biz, or a .org domain name instead.  If you do this be sure to see who has the dot.com address and make sure they are not potential competitor, as you don’t want anyone mis-typing the name as a dot.com and going to a competitor.

List 2-5 domain name ideas for your business. Try to make the names easy to spell and under 20 characters long, if possible. This makes it easier for people to remember your website and type it correctly. You can also add the most important key words that describe what your business does.

As an example, if Hashiago is the name of a Japanese restaurant that sells sushi, they could list hashigo.com hashiagosushi.com and hashiagojapanesefood.com as 3 possible domain names.

Tip: When looking at domains it doesn’t matter if the letters are upper or lower case, but special symbols like the ”&” symbol are not allowed. While it’s not a requirement, it generally a good idea to avoid dashes and numbers in the domain name, unless your business name has a number in it.

In the next lesson we’ll check on the domain name’s availability and see how to get a Domain Name for FREE!
